For most of the association’s life, membership has been a paper exercise. A form at the convention, a cheque to a chapter treasurer, a name written into a ledger that lived on somebody’s shelf. It worked, but it made simple questions surprisingly hard to answer — how many of us are there, and where?
What changes today
Every member now has a membership ID issued the moment they register, and a card they can pull up on their phone. Dues can be paid by card, by bank transfer, by mobile money, or in cash to a chapter treasurer exactly as before — the difference is that all four now end up in the same place.
The point was never to replace the treasurer. It was to stop the treasurer being the only person who knows.
What has not changed
Nobody is listed in the member directory unless they choose to be, and nothing about them appears there unless they tick it. That was a deliberate decision taken early: a public roster of our members’ names and contact details is not something the association is willing to publish.
If you are already a member, sign in and check your details. If you have been meaning to join, it now takes about two minutes.
